Stem Cell Facelift

Over the past few years the discovery that stem cells can be obtained from human fat cells has been very exciting news for plastic surgery. We have already used stem cell transfers for breast reconstruction which has been amazingly successful in patients with irradiated tissue. In addition, there has been a lot of recent work on stem cells being used in facial rejuvenation and there are several institutions that report work with “stem cell face-lifts”. We want to make sure that everyone understands that this is a variation on fat transfers which have already been used in face-lifts for several years. Dr. Core routinely uses fat transfers, as well as, graphs of SMAS tissue to the nasolabial folds and fat transfers into the cheek areas for improved fullness after face-lift surgery. Face-lifts can also be augmented either with injectable filler agents or fat transfers (stem cells) at a later date. There has been tremendous improvement in fat transfer lately which is technique driven.
